TouchRemote is an application that turns your phone into a remote control for your Windows computer. But it is more than that – it provides complete access to the computer via Wi-Fi, Internet or Bluetooth.
Music and video applications like Windows Media Player can be controlled directly via dedicated interfaces. You can either use it like a classic remote control with buttons or as a pad that provides sightless control via touch gestures. Currently supported multimedia applications are Winamp Media Player, iTunes, VLC Media Player, Inmatrix Zoom Player and TERRATEC Home Cinema as well as PowerPoint presentations. According to the developer more applications will be added in the future.
TouchRemote also offers a mouse pad and remote desktop functionality. Both have a soft keyboard available. All kinds of mouse clicks can be triggered by tapping on the screen, e.g. tab & hold for a right mouse button click. It is even possible to simulate a pressed mouse button while moving the mouse, e.g. to mark text. The mouse pad features a scroll bar with mouse wheel functionality and custom acceleration. The remote desktop shows the computer’s screen on the phone you can zoom in/out and move the pane.
Additionally TouchRemote offers useful system features. You can easily change the system volume, start or stop the screensaver and use navigation keys that allow basic control of any application on the PC. The embedded file explorer lets you open files on the computer, move, copy, rename or delete them. Furthermore it is possible to start the computer by Wake-on-LAN, shut it down, set it to sleep etc. A very handy feature is the ability to switch between Start screen and Desktop in Windows 8.
TouchRemote consists of the Smartphone App and a PC Software for Windows. The PC must have at least Windows XP (SP2) installed. To set up a connection to the computer you can simply perform a scan via Bluetooth or within your Wi-Fi network. Connection data is saved for future use. When the TouchRemote app is started it automatically connects to the last connected PC.
The Smartphone App is free and can be downloaded from Google Play. The PC Software is from the TouchRemote website. The Free Demo is restricted in functionality and runtime (15min, restart always possible) and can be upgraded to the Full Version by purchasing a licence for € 8.99 (US$ 12.99).
TouchRemote is a state-of-the-art application with a neat and intuitive interface. It is continuously being improved and you should definitely give it a try.
